She sits down and listens, not looking too surprised.
Thanks Harthen. I thought as much, knowing him, and hearing what the others said.
She puts her hands on her stomach.
I would have gone along, regardless of Merestl, but I can't risk it. Not now.
.o0Too many stubborn people here. Would she have gone...? Yes, she would have. Len? Hope she's alright.)
Thank you for taking the time to tell me, Harthen, but there's someone I must see to.
.o0(Either of you die, and I'll kill you.)
She stands up.

I thought you might need to know. They left - somewhat precipitately. Typical adventurers.
A word. I am not certain what will happen to the Centre in the event of Master Haye's death. I am going to order that the Centre proper be evacuated. I would rather you not get caught in the crush.

I wasn't going to. I'm going to All Souls. Jules'll have gone off too, and I'm concerned about her sister.
I doubt he'd get killed, though. He seems quite capable of staying alive.
Goodday Harthen.
She turns and leaves the room.

It is your choice there Amar. Be careful out there.
* Once Amar had gone he worked at his desk a while longer.
After about 15 minutes, finished with checking the logistics of the evacuation, he gives the order to begin.
The teams work together under the supervision of Martek and Jorlan, evacuating swiftly. The remnant of the warrior team manage an outer perimeter, with the healing team working to keep people moving during teh exodus, which takes about an hour. *

* Merestil appears in his office at the Centre. He pulls off the battle-harness with an effort, hanging it up. He carefully removes the sheathe containing Lighty and clips it to his belt, albeit on the wrong side.
Sitting down he writes a brief note to Harthen. It informs him that the Centre can be reopened on the morrow, there is no further danger, and that if it is necessary to conact him he will be at the Church.
Picking it up, he walks out to ther entrance, finds Harthen and hands him the note, then departs wordlessly, teleporting to the Church, choosing to appear in a room that he was fairly sure would be empty. *

Mecrinus finally arrives, tired, at the Centre. He finds things normal on the surface.
Harthen greets him and welcomes him back.
Hello Harthen. We survived, at least...
That's good sir.
Mecrinus walks back to his room and collapses. It is a while before he starts wondering about Amar.
He goes to the foyer and asks Harthen, who tells him that Amar left the Centre for the Church of All Souls, he believes.
Mecrinus nods and returns to his room, relieved that she had gone somewhere there was no immediate threat.

About an hour has gone by, and the worst of his aches are subsiding, so Mecrinus walks to the foyer and speaks to Harthen, saying that he is going to All Souls to check on Amar.
Harthen nods, and Mecrinus walks out of the Centre.

*Kage walks through the halls of the Centre, unseen by the eyes of any of the employees and enjoying the benefits of the newfound gift Rumerin had given him: the defenses saw him as one of the staff, and he had removed the appropiate staff member to make sure nothing was amiss. Just as his partner did.
Merestil was powerful. One of the most powerful figures in all the Planes. Kage could not take his chances with one such as this. He needed to slay Merestil with the first blow... and he knew just the man to do it. So he had called in some aid, and informed him of the mission at hand.
Now was the time to act. He waited on his partner.

(Sliding through the streets of the city like death given wing, he made his way to his mark, knowing that his ally was most likely already here and done with his part. He knew that he must act quick. Kicking off the ground, he leaps onto the roof and slides through like a ghost, the magic wards and alarms seeing nothing out of the ordinary he continues on through the halls and rooms.)

*Kage slides into the room that Merestil resides in and nods to Otaro as his blades clear their sheathes.
He waits, blades pointed downwards. The first strike was not his.

(Seeing that Kage was ready, Otaro puts his hand on the hilt to his katana and moves near to the mark.....
Shutting his eyes, Otaro takes in one quick breath, drawing his blade. It flies like lighting, the blade doubling in length and thikening as it clears the sheathe and strikes its mark hard and fast, onetWhy my kind sir, I do believe I misunderstood you. Could you please repeat that statement, though in more simple terms? I am, alas, afflicted with a slow mind.hreefour... then calmly and quietly, he resheathes it.)

*While Otaro strikes, Kage follows with his two heavily cursed blades, the absolute edge of the katanas slicing through air, bed, and Merestil with ease.
It begins slow, with one strike... and then builds in speed until it is a heavy blur, a very slight wind picking up in the room. Eight strikes in rapid succession, far too fast and accuarate for most to ever hope to dodge when they were awake.
Asleep, they were not weapons, but tools of slaughter.
Kage nods to Otaro, and steps out of this Plane and onto the Ethereal, rising into the air and through the roof.
Kunya kunyo.

(As Kage lifts into the ethereal Otaro kneels next to the now mangled body, and pulls a small red stone from a hiden poket. Otaro fiddles with the stone before placeing it over the remains and wispering the key words to activate it "The deed is done".
The gem bright as a torch then dims to less then a candle... a smile playes across Otaros face... the soul was his.
His job now done he to leaves the the eather and driftes from the building and in to the night.)

Post by Xeno Zohar on Sept 19, 2005 12:55:44 GMT -5
>While Xeno enjoyed teaching quite a lot, these lengthy absences of Merestil's were begining to become troublesome. People were starting to leave because they weren't being paid, even those provided either free or discounted meals. Xeno had persisted far longer than most of the others, long enough to see Harthen dig into his own funds and wealth to pay for them. No one could access Merestil's riches, after all, and no one could get in contact with him.
No one had seen him leave, either, but then he could teleport, so there was no problem there.
Overall, they had lost contact with the other Centre's spread throughout the Planes, and though the place was still turning a profit, the expenses of upkeep suddenly shifted to someone who had been trying to pay his employee's. Without Merestil around, many who came just left, apparently only ever drawn by Merestil himself, either to try to learn from him or just be near a legend.
The rumors of him abandoning them all didn't help things either.
Xeno sighed and rubbed his temples. He couldn't abandon his students. He had to find another way and another place to teach them. They would follow him whether he had money or not, and in some ways that would be beneficial, but funds were needed for some things. Victus mrowed at him and then leaped off of his lap, to see other opportunities.<

*A letter has arrived for Xeno Zohar. It invites him to a dinner at some day next week, with the Trevains in their new home, the Library.*
