This is one of the many ruins of buildings housing many many families in the slums. They have small rooms, thankfully with decent doors and some facilities though. The inhabitants mockingly call those buildings "heaven", "bliss" and this particular one "paradise". The building has four floors and a basement. Eskel Mornar and his two siblings inhabit a room on the second floor, a rather neat appartment actually, especially when compared to the dirty hallway you need to cross to get there. Eskel keeps his room very clean, and has placed a weak spell of warding against intrudors on it. There is some furniture, even some books hidden (behind a light illusion to protect them from thieves). The walls have been drawn upon with chalk by little Lotheg- people and flowers and monsters and clouds.

Eskel walks in, steering Lotheg and Narwain.
Alright, I'll be going back now, and I hope I still have a job to go back to. Now next time, keep your promises, please. I'm trying to get us out of here.
They nod obediently. He looks at them for a while, then playfully picks them both up, one under each arm, and twirls them around before throwing them both on the bed. He pokes his tongue out at them as they lie there laughing, and quickly goes out again.

Eskel leads Taerlin through the hallway to his home. He opens the door and is immediately attacked by his siblings- Lotheg flies around his neck, while Narwain clutches to his leg. Apparently he took somewhat longer than they'd expected. The room is decorated with cheap paper flowers on a string, going through the room three times, almost but not quite against the ceiling (in fact, Eskel has to duck so as not to get his head caught up in them). He smiles at the children.
Taerlin, my brother Narwain, and the birthday girl, Lotheg. Loth, Wain- meet my friend Taerlin.
The children smile back at him and Taerlin.
Hello. I'm Narwain.
The boy sticks out his hand. The girl simply waves.
Hiya! It's my birthday. And you're pretty.

*She smiles warmly at them both.*
Hello, you two. It is good to meet you.
*She flashes Lotheg a grin.*
You are very, very pretty too. How old are you turning?

Narwain raises an eyebrow slightly in much the same way Eskel can. He simply grabs Taerlin's hand and shakes it. Lotheg smiles proudly.
Thirty-one.
Yes... You'll be a woman soon!
Eskel looks just as proud or ever more so. He gestures towards the small table.
Sit down, sit down all, it's time for presents.
He puts Lotheg down and both she and Narwain sprint to the table and practically jump onto the chairs. They look at Eskel expectantly. He chuckles, walks over and pulls a chair out for Taerlin.

*She smiles at both of them, and supresses a giggle at the familarity of the raised eyebrow. She shakes his hand in return before she looks at Lotheg, and whistles slightly.*
Thirty one? Wow, you are going to be an adult soon.
*She goes over to the table and sits down, smiling at their enthusiasm. She thanks Eskel, and smiles at him as she sits down, communicating without words that she is enjoying herself.*

He smiles back, then takes his schoolbag off of his back.
Guess what...!
He grins broadly and takes a small cartboard box out of his bag. His siblings' eyes go wide. He keeps grinning and put the box on the table, opens it- there is a small cake there, with Lotheg's name and age in refined Sindar characters in chocolate, pink marzipan flowers, and a lot of cream.
... but I'm sure you don't like this, so I'll have to share it with Taerlin.
He sticks out his tongue at them. For a moment, they are stunned, then they start crying "No no! We want some too!" in a duet of high-pitched children's voices. He smiles and conjures up a few tiny candles from his pocket, which he sticks in the cake after getting it out of the box. With grand gestures, he starts making a nonsense incantation, winks at Taerlin, then snaps his fingers, and the candles start burning.

*She tries very, very hard not to laugh in amusement at the scene, especially the children's reaction to his statement that they couldn't have any cake. Although not a mage, she knows the spell is just a front to impress them, and gives Eskel a knowing - and approving - grin.*

He smiles back at her, then looks at his sister.
Blow out your candles, Loth.
Lotheg grins broadly, takes a deep breath, and blows out all the candles minus one. It suddenly goes out though, as an afterthought. Eskel smiles to himself, looking at his brother from the corners of his eyes. Narwain looks terribly innocent, except for the twinkle in his eyes. Lotheg is just pleased with herself, closes her eyes and makes a wish, then looks around at the others with a proud smile. Eskel gets a knife and a few plates.
You can cut the cake, Loth, it's your cake.
She takes the knife very very carefully and cuts scrupulously even pieces, though Taerlin's is probably a bit bigger. Eskel provides little forks, hands out the pieces, sits down and pretends to want to take a bite. He then looks up at his sister in mock-surprise.
... what?
She just looks at him, looking mildly surprised, on the verge of disappointment.
... oh! I nearly forgot!
He takes a wrapped present from his bag and hands it to her.
Many happy returns, little one.
Her face lights up and she takes the gift, thanks him a thousand times, and starts unwrapping.

*Taerlin smiles as she bites into her cake, watching Lotheg unwrap the present. She touches the amulet around her neck, as if feeling something, while watchign Lotheg.*
What'd you get?
*She asks, doing her best to sound as eager as Lotheg is acting.*

Her eyes grow big.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooh! Thankyouthankyou!
She flies around Eskel's neck, then grins at Taerlin.
Look!
She's holding up a rather expensive-looking sketchbook and a box of pencils in all colours you can think of. She kisses Eskel all over his face, turning him as red as a beetroot, whatever a beetroot may be.

*She laughs in joy as she looks at Eskel's reaction.*
"That's a wonderful gift, Loth. Now, let me..
*She begins patting herself, and looks worried.*
...hold on...
*She checks inside her pockets, and looks up her sleeves.*
...oh no, where is it?
*She puts on a worried expression.*

Lotheg looks at Taerlin with wide eyes, first in surprise that she's going to get a gift from someone other than her brothers, then even wider as she starts to believe there's not going to be a gift after all. She's still sitting on Eskel's lap, holding her sketchbook and pencil case. Narwain eats his cake, smearing cream all over his face, observing the goings-on curiously.

*Taerlin looks at Lotheg, and then reaches behind her ear.*
Maybe..
*She pulls out a necklace, one with a beautiful cresent moon on it, out from behind Lotheg's ear.*
...you really need to wash back there, you know. I almost lost this. Happy Birthday.

She looks at Taerlin for a moment, completely stunned, then laughs and flies at her, giving her a hug too.
Thank you! Thankyouthankyou!
Eskel chuckles and gives Taerlin a very grateful smile. Narwain wipes away the worst of the cream from his face and grins too.
