Kaitan follows Chris into the structure.

*Chris sits down behind a desk, and motions Kaitan into the seat across from him. He doesn't seem the least bit disturbed by Kaitan, and the Thri-Kreen don't either, taking easy positions in the back of the room. He begins speaking before waiting for Kaitan to speak.*
Welcome, stranger. What brings you to us?

Kaitan wonders how Chris expected him to see the gesture, but doesn't ask. He takes a seat and listens to Chris before responding.
"You've had dealings with the Nightshades, correct?"
He has no accent, but his sentence structure is vaguely different. His voice is soft but clear.

*Chris is glad the mind flayers psionic relay had let him know Kaitan could still, somehow, see movement without his eyes. Knowledge was power, after all. However, he lets his thought go back to Kaitan's question.*
"The Nightshades are under investigation by the city guard. It could be dangerous to admit to associating with such people."

He smiles.
"Of course."
He pauses for a moment.
"You have heard of the Order, yes?"

He smiles. "Of course." He pauses for a moment. "You have heard of the Order, yes?" *Chris nods cautiously, wondering if this is who he was beginning to suspect it was. Information about the Order was very short, and trickled in even slower than information about the Nightshades.* We have heard of the Order.

(This is Kaitan, of course)
"Well, they've most certainly heard of you.
"You realize that the Order is not on the best of terms with the thieves."
It is phrased like a question but doesn't sound like one.
"The Order wishes to form an alliance. A truce, at least."

*Chris leans forward, his face and mind going completely blank. It is obvious he is in his negotiations mode.*
I see. That is quite the interesting proposition, stranger. Of course, Allies cannot call themselves strangers. What name do you like to be called by?

"Kaitan. My last name is of no importance."

Understandable, Kaitan. What would be the nature of this...alliance?

"The Order does not impede your...business. Within reason, of course. In return, you cease all dealings with the Nightshades."
He shifts in his chair, though he doesn't appear uncomfortable.

*Chris raises a quizzical eyebrow.*
An interesting proposal, but one that seems foolish to accept. It seems to me that the Nightshades are the Alpha males of this city, at least in our buisness. Why should we exchange saftey from them from saftey from you?

"You are correct in your assumption. The Nightshades are more powerful than either the Order or the Guild. Together, however, we equal or surpass their strength."
Chris can probably notice that this is the first time Kaitan actually connected himself with the Order.
"An alliance would maintain the balance of power in the city. If the Nightshades were to grow in influence any more, they would be able to destroy both of our organizations. They probably wouldn't hesitate to do so, given the chance."

*Chris pauses thoughtfully.*
Interesting. Your analysis is sound...but wouldn't the Nightshades view us no threat seperate, but as a threat combined? Isn't it equally likely that the Nightshades will decide that us banding together, so to speak, poses enough of a threat do them for them to openly move to eliminate us?

*Outside of the guild, in a badly-lit part of the sewers close-by, a number of shadows dance to the light of the single torch hanging on the wall. After a while, a man steps from those shadows- dressed in black, with a long black cloak, hood pulled over his head, partially hiding his face. But he doesn't seem to be armed. He watches and waits.*
