* Gendorial makes his way through the market streets. He pauses again to look at some vendors.
One well patronised booth catches his eye and he moves towards it. He catches the sign. "Hammer and Tongs." He approaches, curious.
Beneath the name is a motto. "Let skill decide."
The stall is devoted to weapons. Not just any old weapons. They specialise in matched duelling weapons. Sabres, rapiers - even one pair of marched greataxes.
Most of the weapons are really well crafted but have no magical enhancements - some are ornamented though, with damascened blades or jewelled hilts.
Gendorial looks the merchandise over before passing on.he makes a mental note to come back here when he can. *

* Merestil moves through the wards quickly, apparently not paying much attention to his surroundings. One boy, mistaking this for short-sightedness, tries to pick his pocket. He gets about two paces before he finds himself in a vice-like grip with a dagger at his back, and he is marched into a little alley, where he is shaken down, all valuables confiscated, and sent on his way with a rather sore backside. No passers-by seem to notice anything.
Merestil takes a somewhat unusual route into the Inn, one that few even of Vinnie's regulars know about. *

*They emerge onto a deserted alley, and not out of the garbage can. Thoringel grunts softly, and wonders how this portal is activated. Someone must know.
They set opff towards Lady's Ward.*

It had taken them a long while, and a couple of favours, but they had finally traced the activation method for the portal in the Market ward.
Making their way there, they opened the portal with the tuning fork and stepped through. Much more dignified.

* Stepping into Sigil he walks towards the market.
He finds the place that he remembered. Hammer and Tongs... that was it.
Behind the counter a dwarf, his bald head glistening with sweat, argued with a customer over the value of a pair of longswords. They argue over the swords for the best part of half an hour before they shake hands and a handsome sum was paid over. The dwarf carefully packed the swords in a carrying case, and the man lifted them and walked off.
The dwarf turned to Gendorial. * Aye?
Master Telchar. I would speak with you about purchase of a pair of your weapons. I wonder if you have another matched set of longswords?
That depends on your budget my lad. Yon customer bought the penultimate set in the place.
O course I have other weapons; two-handsd duelling swords, a falchion pair, and sabres, scimitars and other such. But if you have your heart set on longswords...
* He disappeared into the recesses of his booth and came out with a carrying case. The casewas made of fine-grained darkwood lovingly polished to a fine glow. He set the case down and opened it with a flourish. *
There. Eat your heart out, crazed katana-makers. You'll never find anything better.
* He grinned.
The swords in the case were plain metal blades wihout apparent ornamentation. The hilts were crossgrained, and made from a material designed not to slip in a sweaty hand. The blades glowed with a faint sheen that told the expert eye the bladees were made from adamantine. *

* Gendorial lifted one of the swords out and tested it. Not his preferred weapon - not nearly as elegant as the slender scimitar he had been brought up to use - but well-balanced. Somehow he had set the sword up that it felt almost alive in his hand.
Setting it down he picked up the other sword and tested that. * Not bad at all. So what are you asking for it?
* Telchar grinned, and said with the air of someone doing an enormous favour * Thirty thousand jink the pair.
* Gendorial and Telchar settled down for a long haggle over the price of the swords. Eventually they settled on a price of 22,000 jink. Gendorial paid over the sum in platinum pieces, extracted from a sealed belt, and took delivery of the swords.
With a polite farewell he turned and left Hammer and Tongs, walking back towards the portal to Eluria. *

* Gendorial made his way carefully through the streets towards the portal. Not far from the door he found a well-dressed man standing in front of him. *
Master Gendorial. So nice to meet. My name is Sariel, and I am in the employ of Master Ge'hariel. You may have heard of him.
* Gendorial reflected that he had indeed heard of Master Ge'hariel. Most people who did business across planes had heard of the founder of the Wayfarer's Guild. *
I have heard of the gentleman yes.
Excellent. He requests a moment of your time for a mutually profitable transaction.
* Gendorial bowed. * I would be honoured.
* Sariel bowed politely, turned and led Gendorial through the streets to the Lady's ward. *

* Merestil passes quickly through the Market Ward, just another businessman.
Into one office building, out round the back, and ducking into a tight entryway, he takes the least-known entrance into Vinnie's. *

* At the gate he produces the tuning fork and strikes it. As the scene through the portal shifts and settles on the forest of Eluria, he steps through. *
